Proverbs 18:10 ESV
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
Yahweh makes His attributes known as “merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abundant in goodness and truth,” The righteous take refuge in these and find himself in safety, lifted above the trouble which seemed ready to overwhelm him. The rich man’s “strong city” and “high wall” are such only in “his own conceit” and fail him in the time of need. Keywords in this passage are the strong tower, righteous, run, and safe. Strong tower — This is sufficient for our protection in the most significant dangers. The moral — By faith and prayer, devotion toward God, and dependence on him; run into it — As their city of refuge. Having made sure of their interest in God’s name, they take the comfort and benefit of it: they go out of themselves, retire from the world, live above it, dwell in God and God in them, and so they are safe as if they were in an impregnable fortress.
Definition of strong tower
A strong tower was a central place in ancient cities where people could run to when facing danger and then find safety and protection.
Let the Lord be your strong tower at all times.
The world places its trust in safety in things that hold no power. Our Father in heaven has given us security, knowing he will keep us safe throughout life. This doesn’t mean we will not experience physical, psychological, and hardships. We can count on that he will grant us strength, peace, and endurance every step of the way. Our safety in The Lord comes from relinquishing every aspect of life unto the Father. For he is the creator and the author of Life and knows best.
