Derek Alexander is a Long Island native, hip-hop artist and producer whose stage presence, technical skill set and production/songwriting sensibilities make him an formidable asset to the TAKEOVER RECORDS roster based in Allentown, PA and led by founder Angelo “LARO” Maldonado.

From the time he was 12, Derek’s love for Hip Hop resulted in his first rap group that performed in school functions & neighborhood clubs. Totally immersed in his craft, he even opened up a local studio to record other aspiring rappers to earn extra cash, and as time went on, Derek’s production skills became more of the focus as he produced for his rap group that began to make a small buzz in being an opening act for artists such as Nina Sky and Lady Gaga, along with getting radio placement on Power 105.3 FM in 2008 and Hot 97 in NYC in 2016.

It was during that time that Derek heard the gospel through someone at his job, an encounter that completely opposed his Catholic background, and eventually, it was his interest in biblically based sermons that ultimately convicted him. Three weeks later he encountered Jesus in his bedroom and surrendered his life to him instantly. Overnight, Derek’s life took a 180 degree turn and he desired to chase after God, and his devotion led to a six month hiatus from music.

Once his hiatus was over, he linked up with a worship leader, and started a new group called Dying Breed, and after seriously reinventing him as an emcee, he ended up going solo again, eventually releasing a mixtape as well as his first album as a Christian artist called Young And Bold.

Even as a performance artist, Derek has battled social phobias and inferiority complexes, but has remained fully committed to the Lord in moving past those anxieties with the hope of being an inspiration, encouragement, and testimony to others.

Since his solo tenure began, Derek has performed on various stages and platforms to spread the Gospel amongst the likes of Christian mainstays such as Andy Mineo at BattleCry, Th3 Saga, Sevin, Sicily, Heesun Lee, David Ham and Rich Perez. Now as a official TAKEOVER RECORDS artist, Derek is determined to produce innovative and genre crossing hip-hop to an audience he is meant to encourage, inspire and proclaim the Gospel towards in the most effective way possible.
